This will be a short list--only 2, but 2 very strong recommendations.
First, I really love the Cello. There are many great recordings, but these two really stand out. One thing that is so enjoyable about the cello is the range. Any problems in your crossover between the mid and bass and it will be noticed. Also the weight of the sound of a cello is much more than you might expect for it's frequency range. If the lower octaves on your system are lean, the cello will not have it's full body.
The fist is the re-issue of Starker playing Bach Cello Suites, unaccompanied. This is about the most haunting experience of nearly having a cello in your home you can imagine.
The second recommendation is Dvorak Cello Concerto - Piatigorski / Munch Boston Symphony Orchestra. Not quite the stellar recording of the first recommendation, but it is an wonderful rendition and captures the entire symphony beautifully.
If you like this instrument at all, these are two recommendations that I can feel confident in telling you to just go get a copy--or put it on your holiday gift list.
